hmmmm whats with the Xanga ressurection... w00....I managed to bag a secondment in a different department at short notice. Got told about it on a Monday, applied for Tuesday morning, HR lady calls by afternoon. Bit of a mix up there, she misunderstood me about the possible days for an interview. Had the day off on the Wednesday, my councillor at work calls me up, says the HR lady wanted to get in touch regarding the interview. Standing there twiddlying my thumbs at the airport waiting for my parents and chatting to the HR lady about setting up an interview for the following day!!! Suffice to say had an interesting interview on the Thursday one on one with the Manager of the other department. Very relaxed and went pretty well. By Monday afternoon found out I had been chosen, but then it was only the two of us that actually went for the job. Already completed one week in the new role, but bit on the quiet site, since I had to man the "bat phone" for the department, and basically be 3rd Line Support for the other possible departments that actually escalate problems to us. Should be more interesting this week, as I learn to repackage Marimba deployment channels into Microsofts SMS deployment system...should be good. For once I actually get to piss about with Virtual Machines at work as they develop deployment channels for the firm, and build up the images that are deployed for new joiners. Hopefully get a good look into we are going to shape up Vista ready for deployment early next year... Unfortunately this also means a six month pay cut, as the hourly rate is the same, but their weekly hours is only 35 hours...Has the prospect of some overtime to make up for the loss of overtime, since they are project based, and sometimes with strict deadlines. Especially if its mandated by the Global firm...whatever do they know about service... Moaning about Global, they have shafted our global Blackberry service since early February. Their back out plan? To twiddle their thumbs until RIM release another update to the backend servers...jeez. Meanwhile us on the ground have to fire fight with the users themselves, and warn them that it will now take up to 48 hours to setup their oh so precious Crackberries, sorry, I mean Blackberry...Not only is the UK affected though, but whichever country also chose to deploy Blackberries for corporate emails. Hope they were getting a lot of hate mails from the other country practices..serves 'em right... Lucky I don't have to deal with that crap for the next 6 months though, and I also have the option to work from home, once I've gotten into the swing of things, and the type of work permits... |
